Boy George, Intrepid Celebrity Phenomenon Investigator, recently reported that Madonna should abandon her Kabbalistic tendencies not because that whole Esther joke is like five years old but because -- gasp!! -- the sect is anti-gay:
"I have investigated it and they are homophobic. I do think it's shocking that somebody who has made so much money out of gay people is now part of an organisation which is anti-gay."
Not that I'm terribly inclined to believe old Boy in these areas, but I did ask a friend with an inside connection for the actual reality. He writes:
Oh George, methinks you need a good does of Kabbalistic Light to brighten your life. So what exactly have your investigations entailed? This particular homosexual has been studying Kabbalah for nearly 7 years and never read or heard a homophobic word in or out of the Kabbalah Centre. In fact, it's pretty hard to find a seat at a table for Centre events without joining several other 'mos. When I asked my instructor about an anti-gay accusation, he balked. "Gay, straight, black, white, short, tall -- we are all sparks of Light that can use this technology for the soul."
