Popnography turn-ons:
Sunny Southern California (especially in late fall), debating the relative gayness of hit television shows, and publicists who just say yes.
For example: Contrary to rumors about how things are done in the blogosphere, I spent some time Friday afternoon working to double-check that the eponymous frontwoman of Otep, an alt-metal band, was in fact a lesbian.
Her camp wrote back quickly and affirmatively: "She sure is - a HOT one."
This is hands down the best confirmation I've ever gotten on a subject's sexuality, and if there's anything Popnography is in the business of rewarding, it's this kind of enthusiastic declaration. So:
Check out Otep's cover of Nirvana's "Breed," which debuted on MTV's Headbanger's Ball this weekend. Yeah, I had no idea that show was still on, either, but it's a damn good cover, and I say that as a proud member of the Cobain generation.
Speaking of Nirvana, their Unplugged performance is being re-released this week, complete with remastered sound, the full, unedited set (with two songs not included in the original broadcast) and bonus rehearsal footage.
And if you're a flack with a hot product or person to push, let this be a lesson to you! Be sure you know your target's turn-ons (and turn-offs, like obfuscation! or lack of humor! or unwillingness to use exclamation points unnecessarily!). And, most important, don't be afraid to just say yes.
