It's almost the holidays! Popnog will be around during these dark days and also on the flip side of the solstice, but in a limited capacity. I'm kicking off already by making other people write about our mutual obsessions, like the new Ashlee Simpson single! Whoo!
Megan from FyreHaus proves we share at least half a brain:

Ashlee Simpson, best known for her ill-fortuned Saturday Night Live performance, has finally captured my attention in more than her capacity as Pete Wentz's girlfriend.
The video for her new Timbaland-produced single, "Outta My Head (Ay ya ya)", is influenced by '80s synth pop (think Blondie) and Gwen Stefani. There's an Ashlee sitting on a Rubik's cube mocking the Ashlee at the psychiatrist's office, '80s robot Ashlee experiencing mechanical failure, and an American Apparel-clad Ashlee running from fans. This video is as infectious as its chorus. I swear, I meant to only watch the video once! And yet, I've crept back to YouTube for a hit of this sweet, sweet video five times in the last day.
Ashlee manages to be one of those celebrities that pokes fun at being a celebrity without even toeing the pretension line, in the vein of Robbie Williams's "Entertain You."

See! Watch Ashlee and Robbie doing their thing below.

Um. This video is terrible. It seems so desperately faux-quirky. Even Ashlee doesn't look convinced. Seems like a calculated effort to give her some kind of recognizable identity ("Look! She's zany and satirical! A floating Rubik's cube! AY YA YA!"). Probably the most annoying catch phrase ever. Has anyone ever managed to make a good song/video about the woes of being a celebrity? I really enjoy this blog, but I'm not likin' some of these musical selections.

This is horrible. She is horrible. Her sister is horrible. Her father is a pimp.
Song is just like Britney's "Piece of Me" which is in the same vain of Watchulookinat by Whitney a few years ago. Another self-absorbed, attetion-seeking, pretentious and totally in denial star screaming a dity we could do without (actually, anything Whitney sounds good in a dance mix. Actually, almost anything AS a dance mix sounds good to me, so....). The Simpsons are a cartoon.
