Adamo Ruggiero from Degrassi: The Next Generation came out last month, talking about the unusual and unique position of being cast to play a role that turned out to be gay well before he was himself ready to accept his sexuality.
I immediately dispatched my friend Nelson Branco -- the friendly face Adamo came out to in the first place -- back to grab an exclusive scoop for Out. Here's a quick note from Nelson with a little more backstory:
Guess what was the first thing Adamo Ruggiero did after he came out last month: Cruise the parks of Disney World? Nope. A weekend of debauchery in Las Vegas with Lance Bass? Yeah, right. The sweet-mannered star tells Out.com his post-coming out plans were, well, more low-key, but just as fun: “I came out, and then I went out. It was important to me and my boyfriend that we hung out that weekend in Toronto bars and clubs to interface with my peeps. Isn’t that the point of coming out? I had everyone from teens to burly bouncers applauding my courage in telling the truth about who I am. It was a little surreal, but wonderful all the same.” In short, there was no coming-out malfunction here, folks.
Read the full interview with Adamo at Out.com, where he talks about his boyfriend of a year, the American fans who wouldn't give up the ghost of rumors he might be straight and just how much he loves Mariah Carey. (A lot. Some things never change!)
