The unacknowledged hobby of anyone who works in magazines is browsing for your own issues (and then moving them to the front of the rack for better exposure, especially if you don't work for a big enough title that buys its way to prime placement). There's an equivalent to this for every profession -- my favorite is what's colloquially known as "the Washington read," or the quick flip through the index of a new political exposé one does while standing at Kramerbooks and hoping you're famous enough to make the cut.
