Pursuing Pete

When you're an intern-slash-freelance gossip columnist you never really know where your day is going to take you or what you'll be forced to do to make the powers that be happy. Luckily, I have pretty kick-ass bosses and don't mind being sent to hell and back on the most random assignments.
For instance, Tuesday Shana IMed me in a tizzy after discovering -- while trolling a random fansite -- that the new Q magazine features Pete Wentz asking Madonna the gayest possible question he could come up with:
Pete Wentz: What's it like to be the world's biggest gay icon and not be gay?
Madonna: How does he know I'm not gay? No, I'm just kidding. It feels great. If it's true. Why do I think that might be? Because since the very beginning of my career I've always promoted freedom of expression and embracing the idea of being different. Independence of thought; fighting any kind of oppression. And also: I'm a diva. I think "Queer Nation" and "Diva" just go together. The diva in them recognized the diva in me. All my banging dance floor tunes? Well yes, that goes without saying.
Due to Shana's fanatical, borderline crippling (though still charming) obsession with the Fall Out Boy bassist and our desire to bring you the gayest, most up-to-date gossip from respected sources, I was sent into the heart of Chelsea to track down a copy of Q.
After stalking Pete for 15 blocks, hitting up four different magazine shops, and cruising two cute guys (OK, one cute guy and one guy I deemed cute because of his dapper suspenders), I returned to the Out offices Wentz-less. Apparently the issue is just too fresh, so we'll have to settle for the above (probably accurate anyway) account until we can get our hands on the real thing.
Ready to do some Wentz watching of your own? Want to personally congratulate Pete on his recent engagement to Ashlee? If you're an OC mall rat (or close enough to hop in the car and head down to Summer and Marisa's favorite shops), he'll be launching his junior's collection at Nordstrom at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Sunday night at 7:30pm. Bonus points for any boys willing to try on the more unisexy t-shirts and hoodies in the ladies' dressing room.
