Yes, we mean "stop by," as in the two pop stars barely passed through the city to entertain their hysterical followers. They were like mist, or a fleeting summer romance, or Crystal Clear Pepsi. In and out in a flash, folks.
In support of her just-released album, Hard Candy, Madonna joined Justin Timberlake for a 32-minute, don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it performance at New York City's Roseland Ballroom last night. Out staffer Scott McPherson pulled himself together enough to report:
At around 10:05pm "Candy Shop" started playing, and the screen onstage began to rotate. On the other side was Her Madgesty, sitting on what seemed to be a throne. From the very beginning she was busting out the moves and singing completely live. A few fans were holding lollipops in honor of the song. She then took a break and brought out her acoustic guitar for "Miles Away." It was a very intimate number, not what you'd expect from dance-crazed Madonna. After she put down her guitar, the lights went off a second time, and a counter appeared on the screen, blinking "4:00." The single "4 Minutes" began, and soon Madonna and Justin Timberlake were chasing each other like rabid cats around the stage.
Later, wielding an electric guitar, she talked to the crowd, asking, "Feel like you're at a Rolling Stones concert now?" and declaring, "Fuck the present!" Madonna went on to play a rock version of "Hung Up," performed "Give It 2 Me" with two dancers and a killer laser light show, and then ended the short set with "Music."
Celebs spotted in the audience: Designer Zac Posen, Rosie O'Donnell, Gossip Girl's Michelle Trachtenburg, Heatherette's Richie Rich and Traver Rains, and Fran Drescher.
