Scoot over, Bert and Ernie -- there's a new gay in the neighborhood. The new season of Sesame Street, which kicks off August 11, will feature Neil Patrick Harris as the resident shoe fairy on the block (talk about typecasting!)
During his visit, Harris -- dressed in a glittery suit and matching pair of fairy wings -- belts out a tune about his magical shoe-outfitting powers while flitting around the neighborhood in a cloud of sparkles. "I've got shoes that make you hop! I've got shoes that make you mop!" he brags while the Sesame Street gang jubilantly tap dances in their new footwear behind him. Who knew people could get this excited about shoes? I blame Carrie Bradshaw.
Regardless, the sketch is adorable, Harris looks genuinely happy in his wings -- and sounds great (must be all that pipe stretching he's doing in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog). It's always nice to see gays popping up in fun, expected and highly revered places on television. (It was good enough for Anderson Cooper, after all.)
Here's a highlight reel from the 39th season of Sesame Street, which features the extra exciting bonus of Feist performing her hit "1, 2, 3, 4" with new lyrics tailor made for the show like "1, 2, 3, 4 / monsters walking across the floor":
Update: Watch the full clip on YouTube.
