Move over, Joey Fatone -- Lance Bass is the latest 'NSync-er to lace up his tap shoes for Dancing With the Stars, which premieres on ABC on September 22. Though the ex-boy band member denied any involvement with the show earlier this summer, his name was among the competitors announced by host Tom Bergeron Monday morning. The other B-list (and C-list and D-list) celebrities signed on to hotfoot it are Olympic gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Maurice Greene, Married with Children alum Ted McGinley, comedian Jeffery Ross, retired NFL star Warren Sapp, chef Rocco DiSpirito and socialite Kim Kardashian who is still rearing to perform even though she cut her foot so badly on a broken mirror Sunday night that her hotel room looked like a "murder scene."
82-year-old actress Cloris Leachman is also on board and told USA Today, "I don't have anything to prove. I haven't danced in 60 years. I want to get my muscles back -- they're noodles. This is the most pleasant way to do it."
Still, as excited as we are to see Lance duke it out with the beloved octogenarian for the gay vote, we have to admit we're a bit disappointed that he won't be doing the hustle with a male partner. Instead, professional dancer -- and former So You Think You Can Dance season three contestant -- Lacey Schwimmer will team up with Bass. And she'll have her work cut out for her: Shana reports from her vast knowledge of all things Bass that Lance was the worst dancer in 'NSync, and, as archival evidence of Lance's less-than-smokin' stepping, she points to a clip from the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards which features the added bonus of a pre-breakdown Britney Spears dancing with what must be the gayest back up troupe ever assembled:
Shana does concede that Lance's skills increased over time -- perhaps once he started getting laid more frequently? -- so, for his sake, and Lacey's, let's hope he's been keeping busy in the dance studio and the bedroom.
