After a marathon final elimination challenge -- stylists had to cut, color and style four different models in just three hours -- Shear Genius delivered its second champion, out lesbian Dee Adames. She won $100,000, assorted swag and 10 minutes of our time to help explain how this show became our guilty pleasure.
Out.com: Bravo's promos for the finale showed you freaking out in the final challenge. Were you really on the verge of losing it or was it just selective editing?
Dee Adames: No, I was freaking out. It was a lot of pressure to have to do four clients in three hours. It's almost fairly impossible. The pressure was on, for real. I was sweating.
If you had to decide between cut and color for the rest of your life -- you could only do one -- what would you do?
I can't answer that question! If you were to ask me would I paint or would I sketch -- you have to sketch to paint.
Who did you feel was underrated on the show?
By far, Nekisa. I think she got thrown under the bus way too many times and didn't deserve it. There were a couple of times when I looked at the challenges and some of her work was polished, and she didn't get recognized for that.
There was some cute teasing of your crush on Nekisa -- are you two still in touch?
We are still in touch. We've developed a great friendship. She's someone I admire and respect, she's an awesome positive person and a lot of fun. There were other people I bonded with -- Daniel and Parker were two of my favorites as well.
Was Matthew’s wife was as amazing as he made her out to be?
She is gorgeous -- and if I had a wife like that, I'd probably talk about her as much! [Laughs]
Are you dating anyone right now?
I am not -- I am currently single. I did make mention of my girlfriend at the beginning of the show, but when I came back -- things changed. We stayed friends.
Have you ever not dated someone because of an awful haircut?
I always have the opportunity to take care of my partner's hair. If they had an awful haircut before, I wouldn't judge them on that -- I'd just take care of it and make sure they had a rockin' hairstyle when they were with me. My partners definitely become my projects!
What other Bravo show would you want to be on?
I would love to come back on a judge on Shear Genius for sure. I would like for Bravo to possibly create something like a "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" lesbian makeover show. I would like to do a whole tomboy makeover -- helping out the lesbian community. There are a lot of really bad mullets out there that we need to get rid of.
Look for Dee & L Hair Studio, opening up shop in Miami by the winter holidays.
