Here's our standard joke around the office:
Q. What's the difference between Out and Details?
1. Out brings its boyfriend to the holiday party.
2. Details still hasn't told its mom.
3. Um, what was the difference again?
That is to say: Sometimes it's hard to tell, especially when you look at a side by side comparison of our covers, like this. (Though that begs the other obvious punchline: Details goes gay six months later.)
There's one important difference. We're proud to be, well, out and proud. We're a smart men's magazine about fashion and culture that doesn't play the pronoun game or write around the obvious in order to make some of our readers feel more comfortable. Pick up an average issue of GQ or Esquire or even Details and you'll see hot guys, generally helpful fashion advice and some moderately entertaining "shocking" celebrity profiles.
Sure, we envy their bigger budgets, but we cherish the chance to give you what you really want -- a magazine that's more about helping you stand (and be) out than packed with your typical tone-it-down tips for how to fit in with the bros. See above: "Do you have douchebag hair?"
Let's just call it like we've always seen it. Details is totally a gay magazine. Out's just gayer. And we lay better than even odds that Emile Hirsch will be their Milk cover.
