Because most of the time our presidents tend to be old and stodgy, we're still trying to adjust to the thought of life with a younger, hipper leader of our country. For instance, how crazy is it that our next commander in chief is a comic book geek? Even crazier, after Barack Obama mentioned that he used to collect Spider-Man comics, Marvel comics decided to release a special edition Amazing Spider-Man #583 featuring the soon to be president on the cover.
Inside the issue President Elect (ugh, we can't wait to drop that "Elect") Obama and Spidey will team up for four pages of crime fighting and will even share an iconic fist-bump before parting ways. Marvel editor in chief Joe Quesada told USA Today, "It was a natural after we learned the new president is a Spider-Man fan. We thought, 'Fantastic! We have a comic-book geek in the White House.'" Marvel is predicting the issue will sell-out quickly and become a major collectible.
Although the Obama camp refused to comment on how deep the former Senator's geekdom goes, Obama has previously stated that his favorite comic book characters are Spider-man and Batman because of their inner turmoil. A far cry from Senator McCain who stated his favorite comic book character was Lex Luther because he too was persecuted by the liberal media elite.
The issue hits stands on January 14th but you can get a sneak peak at a few panels here.
