The only thing we love more than a stellar comeback is the fall right before it. That's why we're not exactly sure how to classify this one. The New Kids on the Block were on the fast track for an A-list comeback with a panty tossing-inspiring appearance on The Today Show and a national tour that was filling large venues. Then the news broke this week that the band is taking a break from the auditorium circuit to perform on a cruise ship. Seriously?
"This is not a cheesy thing. This is not a step back," band member Joey McIntyre assured us in a video on People.com whilst sounding a bit too "thou doth protest too much" for our tastes. Tickets go on sale for the cruise today and hopefully this will actually be a Step by Step for the band towards the career they once had, ruling at the top of the charts and causing hordes of teenage girls, including my little sister, to scream and cry at their concerts and spend all of their free time professing their love for the boys in sappy perfume-scented letters.
(OK, OK, I do not have a little sister. And if you must know, none of the guys ever wrote back to me.)
