Above, Vic Seidler, the keynote speaker, drones on and on about masculinity during the banquet. From what I can remember, he talked about how the greatest moment in his life was when a small child mistook him for John Lennon. He also said, "The body is in some way black. The body is in some way queer. The body is in some way Jewish....at least in the dominant Christian theology." Later I realized this was true.
During the banquet, I took the time to embark on a field of study in which I shall discursively represent a posterior view of the head region of many contemporary scholars of masculinity. In obscuring their faces in these drawings, I am harkening back to Fanon's idea of the contigencies of masculinity. They could, literally, be anyone but by situating these portraits in the context of an academic conference, I am challenging the reader to confound and confront notions of class, gender and race attendent in traditional portraiture. Either that or I was fucking bored and a little drunk.
