When Lance Bass came out in People he made one huge mistake -- he referred to himself, semi-jokingly, as a "straight-acting gay." Community-policing queers missed the obvious hilarity of this (in what world, Lance?) and Lance spent the next few months getting lectured left and right about how Real Queers Embrace Their Queerness.
He's obviously gotten the message, because the hilarious ways in which he's managing to both embrace and exploit his awesome chemistry with Dancing with the Stars partner Lacey Schwimmer -- not to mention his actual dance skills -- are keeping him safely in the favorites zone. Monday the two of them appeared on Ellen to promote the show -- they came out holding hands; she called them "a cute couple," everyone laughed knowingly. Then during an early commercial break on tonight's show, Lance danced around with the Restaurant's Rocco DiSpirito.
And then Lance and Lacey danced the paso doble to "I Kissed A Girl" -- and he did. Instead of the traditional matador-conquers-strumpet close, they ended with a hot kiss, after which he carefully reapplied his lipgloss. (Both the boys I watched with admit this is the first time they've truly found Lance hot, by the way.) All in all an utterly queer-acting performance.
See?
